GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After opening the NCAA gymnastics season with the top score in the country, the top-ranked LSU gymnastics team will take on No. 7 Florida at 6 p.m. CT Friday on the SEC Network in a meeting of two of the top teams in the league over the last five years.

The meet will be televised on the SEC Network with Bart Conner (play-by-play), Kathy Johnson Clarke (analyst) and Laura Rutledge (reporter) with the call. It marks the second of seven times the Tigers will be showcased on the Network in 2018.

Tigers Post Strong Showing in Season Opener
LSU posted a score of 197.150 in the season opener to take down No. 19 in the season opener last Friday inside the PMAC. Junior Sarah Finnegan led the way for the squad with a career-best score of 39.650 in the all-around. Finnegan also took home tiles on bars and beam for the squad.

Freshmen Sarah Edwards, Sami Durante, Reagan Campbell and Christina Desiderio performed for the first time on the collegiate stage with strong performances. All four posted scores of 9.80 or better with Durante highlighting the group with a 9.875 as the leadoff performer on bars.

Breaux Previews the First Road Meet
“Momentum is a very powerful thing,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “When things go your way then you feel a different type of energy. Now we go to Florida and get to compete in a great environment against a fabulous team and program. We’ve gone back and forth over the last couple years and this will be another great meet.”

Finnegan Takes Home SEC Weekly Honor
Following an outstanding performance in the season opener, Finnegan was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week for the first time in her career. Finnegan anchored both bars and beam for the Tigers.

Series Record Between Florida and LSU
LSU is 38-69 all-time against Florida and just 7-26 in Gainesville. The last time the Tigers traveled to Florida, the 2016 squad outlasted the second-ranked team. The win snapped the Gators’ win home win streak that began in 2010. A year ago, LSU defeated Florida four different times for the most wins over the Gators in a season in school history.

Fans can follow the Tigers on the team’s social media channels: @LSUgym on Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat, www.Facebook.com/lsugym and at YouTube.com/lsugymnastics.
