Monroe Concludes Campaign at ITA All-Americans
Communications Graduate Assistant
TULSA, Okla. – After securing a win in the round of 16, LSU men’s tennis senior Shane Monroe advanced to the consolation singles quarterfinals but was unable to secure another victory at the ITA All-American Championships Saturday afternoon.
“We weren’t quite sure if Shane would even be able to play today because he cramped after his match yesterday,” co-head coach Chris Brandi said. “He ended up playing two incredible matches against very good players. Shane’s movement has really improved this year, and it showed in this tournament. He’s starting to play good tennis heading into the regional. It was a good showing for the Tigers in Tulsa, and we are excited to get back to work.”
Monroe worked a gritty, 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-2 win against Michigan’s Mattias Simar to move on to the quarterfinals, but the senior fell in three to Ohio State’s John McNally, 3-6, 6-2, 3-6, to conclude the Tigers’ run in the tournament.
LSU will return to action on October 18 at the ITA Southern Regional hosted by the University of Alabama.
