BATON ROUGE -- LSU men’s basketball coach Trent Johnson announced Wednesday that the school has received the signed papers for Malcolm White of Baton Rouge, allowing him to transfer from Ole Miss to play at LSU beginning with the 2010-11 season.

White, a 6-9, Forward from St. Helena Central, will have two years of eligibility remaining and will be able to practice with the team during the 2009-10 season. White played the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons for the Ole Miss Rebels.

White started 27 games a year ago for Ole Miss, averaging 24.7 minutes per game, scoring 7.2 points per game and 5.7 rebounds along with just under two blocks per game. In the Southeastern Conference games, he averaged 8.9 points and 6.6 rebounds, starting 15 of the 16 games. From Dec. 13 through the end of the season, White’s season point average improved 3.0 points and his rebound average 4.1 boards. White’s 43 blocks were the most ever by a sophomore in Ole Miss history and 10th most by any player in a season.

Twice during the year against Kentucky and Mississippi State, White scored 20 points and at Auburn, he pulled down a career-high 18 boards, the most by a Rebel since 2003. White shot 51.3 percent from the field (58-of-113) and 27-of-33 from the free throw line.

As a freshman in 2008, White played in 26 games, averaging 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds while averaging 6.7 minutes per game. His freshman season high came against LSU as he scored 12 points and had six rebounds in 21 minutes in a Jan. win over the Tigers.

At St. Helena Central, he was named the 2006 District 8-2A Player of the Year and earned a spot on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association all-state team for Coach Lester Jenkins. White averaged 28 points and 16 rebounds per game as a senior (2006) at St. Helena, 22 points and 13 rebounds as a junior in 2005. He holds school records for blocks in a game with 18 and rebounds in a game with 22. He attended Genesis One Christian Academy in Mendenhall, Miss., during the 2006-07 season and averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks on its national runner-up team.

White, who was born on Aug. 11, 1988, is the nephew of former Notre Dame All-American and NBA star Orlando Woolridge.
