Soccer Drops Match to No. 12 Duke

Durham, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Duke Blue Devils beat the LSU soccer team by a score of 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium as part of the Duke Nike Classic. The loss drops LSU’s record to 2-3-1, and Duke improved to 4-1-1.
The first 15 minutes of the contest were scoreless before Duke’s Tess Boade scored a goal in the 16th minute with the assist going to Mackenzie Pluck. Less than three minutes later Ella Stevens doubled Duke’s lead with a goal in the 18th minute. The Blue Devils added goals by Marykate McGuire (26th minute), Stevens (30th minute) and Remi Swartz (34th minute) to take a 5-0 lead into the half after 45 minutes of play.
Sydney Lau made her LSU debut at the start of the second half and she was tested immediately out of the gates. A Duke corner in the 47th minute resulted in a header on goal from inside the six but Lau’s quick reaction helped her make the save and keep the deficit at five. It was her first-career save as a Tiger. Lau would go on to make two more saves in the second half. Duke added its sixth and final goal in the 70th minute. Emma Grace Goldman made four saves during the first half.

The LSU soccer team will take on Arizona State on Sunday (Sept. 15) at LSU Soccer Stadium. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. and as always, admission for LSU home soccer matches are free.
