Baton Rouge, La. - LSU freshman runner Jackson Martingayle was named the SEC Men’s Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week for his performance at the McNeese Opener (Aug. 31). Martingayle’s time of 18:33.1 in the 6k was good enough for fifth place and was the top reported 6k time in the SEC this weekend. He was the top men’s finisher for LSU and led the Tigers to a second-place finish in their first meet of the season.
“With this being my first collegiate race, I just tried to go out there and run with my team for the first portion of the race,” Martingayle said. “As the race continued, I felt better and better and finished as strong as I possibly could; I was glad to come out with a PR. I’m really honored to receive this award.”
Martingayle became the first runner to earn this award in LSU’s history. The LSU cross country squads will be back in action on September 21 for the Nicholls Invitational at the Nicholls Farm.
