Bannister Named to Preseason All-SEC Team

BATON ROUGE – Junior right side hitter Taylor Bannister was named to the Preseason All-SEC team and the Tigers are picked to finish seventh among the league, the SEC announced Wednesday.

Bannister, a 2018 AVCA All-Region selection, recorded six 20-plus kill matches in 2018, including a 36-kill match against SMU, the second-most kills in a five-set match in program history. She led the team in kills per set 4.04. In SEC matches only, she ranked seventh among the league in points per set at 4.16 and sixth at 3.73 kills per set.

In SEC action, Bannister hit .211 and tallied 272 kills. On the year, she hit .217 with a total of 456 kills. She also had a total of 57 blocks for the year. She led the Tigers in 25 of the 29 matches in kills and recorded 26 matches in double-digit kills.

In the preseason poll, the Tigers picked up a total of 82 points, which was six points behind Texas A&M in sixth. Kentucky picked up 11 first place votes and a total of 143 points as the Wildcats were picked at the top of the league.

The Tigers open up the 2019 campaign on August 30 with the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup, playing against UT Arlington, Arizona State and Houston in Houston, Texas.
