Men's Golf Tied 19th After 1 Round at NCAA Championship

Fayetteville, Ark. – The LSU men’s golf team scored a 20-over par 308 on day one of the NCAA Championship at The Blessings Golf Club. The 308 has LSU in a tie for 19th place after 18 holes.

Day 1 Leaderboard

Luis Gagne shot a 3-over 75 to lead the Tigers who started on the back nine. Gagne’s round consisted of two birdies, 11 pars, and five bogeys; he’s in a tie for 36th place. Philip Barbaree (4-over 76) and Trey Winstead (5-over 77) were the next two lowest scorers for the Purple and Gold; Barbaree is in a tie for 53rd place and Winstead is in a 18-way tie for 69th.

Michael Sanders checked in with a 8-over 80 (T122nd) and Nathan Jeansonne finished with a 13-over 85 (T153rd).

Oklahoma State owns the clubhouse team lead with a 2-over 290 and Colin Morikawa (Cal) is the individual leader with a 5-under 67. The course played very tough today as only 21 out of the 156 golfers came in at even par or better. The Tigers will enter the second day of stroke play three shots off the pace of the teams who are tied for 14th. After the third round of play an initial cut will be made and only the top 15 teams will advance. On Monday the final cut will be made where the top eight teams will advance to match play. The eighth-place team, Texas, shot a 10-over 298 on day one.

The Tigers will play alongside South Carolina and Texas A&M again on Saturday and tee time will be at 12:10 p.m. CT off of No. 1.
