Celaya-Hernandez To Compete in FINA Diving World Series

Baton Rouge– LSU diver Juan Celaya-Hernandez will travel out of the country to take part in the FINA Diving World Series.

The first stop will be in Kazan, Russia, with competition running from May 10-12. Celaya-Hernandez will then head to London for the second leg of competition on May 17-19.

“This is Juan’s first experience in the FINA World Series and it is a tremendous opportunity for him,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “The FINA World Series is stacked with Olympians from around the world so it is a tremendous opportunity for Juan to compete against the world’s elite.”                   

For his junior season at LSU, Celaya-Hernandez was named to the Men’s All-SEC First Team for the second time in his career following a season that featured winning 21 out of 32 events. He was named SEC Male Diver of the Week four times. At the 2019 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, he claimed the gold medal on the one-meter springboard with a score of 440.30 and took the bronze on the platform with a score of 409.35. At the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, he won the one-meter consolation final after diving to a score of 803.10. He followed that performance up with a third-place finish on platform, diving to a score of 435.80 to earn him the title of NCAA All-American.
