AUSTIN – All four Tigers who made the trip to Austin for the 2019 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships were in action on Day Three of competition.

On the three-meter springboard, Juan Celaya-Hernandez finished in 30th place after diving to a score of 311.60. Matthew Phillip dove to a score of 277.45 to finish 41st and senior Matt McClellan took 42nd place with a score of 275.30 in his last event as an LSU Tiger.

Head Diving Coach Doug Shaffer

“Today was a rough day at the office. There are some days that are just that way. It is a part of this sport. I’m proud of the character we showed today and appreciative of senior Matt McClellan who competed in his last event today. Matt has been a joy to work with over the past four years.”

Celaya-Hernandez and Phillip will compete again tomorrow on the platform.

In the pool, Karl Luht finished in 21st place in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 45.70. Luht will be back in action tomorrow when the junior will compete in the 100-Yard Freestyle.

Head Swimming Coach Dave Geyer

“I felt Karl put a solid four laps together this morning. Looking at the previous events I thought there was a shot at a second swim but that event far out-swam their seed times compared to others.”
