BATON ROUGE – The 25th-ranked LSU women’s swimming and diving team is set to welcome Houston and Rice for a two-day meet in the LSU Natatorium beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action for the first time since January 19 when LSU made the trip to College Station to face off against the Texas A&M Aggies.

“I think our women will be out there trying to maintain their ranking if not move up and continue some of the great racing we have built up from the beginning of the calendar year,” said LSU swimming head coach Dave Geyer.

Last time out, Haylee Knight took the gold in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.17.  The senior currently sits with the 30thfastest 50-yard freestyle time in the nation and the 10thfastest in the SEC.

Helen Grossman is also coming of a winning performance at Texas A&M as she touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54:01.  Grossman owns the 24thfastest time in the 100-yard fly in the SEC.

The meet will feature a different format than most two-day meets. The three teams will face off Friday in a traditional 16-event meet. The second day will be used for time trials beginning at 10 a.m.

“The coaches from the three teams decided to do something a little different this year,” said Geyer.  “This is the time of the year where programs are always looking out for their own best interest, and I think it is a true reflection of two other great coaches to find a way to bring out the best of our programs at this time of the year.”

The LSU diving team will also be back in action for the first time since traveling to face the Aggies.

“This is the final dress rehearsal prior to SEC Championships,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer.  “It’s one more chance to compete and get better.”

Last weekend, Lizzie Cui finished first and third in the one and three-meter springboard with scores of 343.50 and 331.20, respectively.

Aimee Wilson finished second and third with scores of 335.63 on the one-meter and 364.73 on the three-meter.
