Women's Tennis Places 3 Duos in ITA/Oracle Top 60
BATON ROUGE --- The LSU women’s tennis team placed an outstanding five players in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles and doubles rankings released Wednesday.
Sophomore Eden Richardson leads the group as the No. 13-ranked singles player in the country followed by senior Kennan Johnson at No. 72. Johnson tallied a 9-4 record in fall competition and earned herself a spot in the All-American Qualifying round after outstanding play in the pre qualifiers while Richardson tied Johnson with 9 wins in the fall and won the singles title at the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
Both Richardson and Johnson join their partners in doubles rankings as well.
The reigning national champion duo of Richardson and senior Jessica Golovin lead the Tigers in doubles rankings at No. 9. The pair won the doubles title at the ITA Southern Regional Championship and were 7-1 in fall tournaments.
Johnson joins sophomore Anna Loughlan as the No. 54 pair in the country. The Tiger combo were 5-3 and made it into the top 16 at the ITA Southern Regional and the All-American Pre Qualifying round.
LSU is one of just five women’s tennis programs in the country to boast three or more doubles teams in the top-60.
The next Oracle/ITA rankings will be released on Jan. 2 in advance of the spring 2018 season.
The LSU women’s tennis spring season will begin on Saturday, Jan. 20 against University of South Florida at 11 a.m. CT at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
