Women's Tennis Announces Signing of Two Top Recruits
BATON ROUGE--- The LSU women’s tennis program has secured another impressive recruiting class with the official signings of Maggie Cubitt and Safiya Carrington for the 2019-20 season, co-head coaches Julia Sell and Michael Sell announced Thursday.
Cubitt is a three-time High School State Singles Champion of Spartanburg, South Carolina. The five-star prospect is listed as high as No. 25 recruit in the country according to tennisrecruiting.com.
“We are thrilled to have Maggie join our Tiger Family. Not only is Maggie one of the best recruits, she excels in the classroom and in the community,” said co-head coaches Julia Sell and Michael Sell. “She is an extremely competitive person and a proven winner. Maggie has an explosive game, a tremendous upside and will come in as one of our better doubles players. We can’t wait for her arrival on campus next fall.”
Carrington who has ranked as high as the No. 15 prospect in the country is from South Hadley, Massachusetts. Carrington is ranked as high as No. 702 in the WTA Pro Doubles rating and No. 912 WTA Pro Singles rating.
“Safiya is an immediate impact player, both on court and in her leadership qualities,” The Sells said. “She brings a multidimensional gamestyle with tons of firepower, a strong work ethic and a professional mindset. We can’t wait to have her in the Purple & Gold to continue her development as she will represent LSU well on and off the court.”
Both recruits will be a welcome addition and young assets to the Tiger team that has had immense success in the recruiting scene under the Sells the past several years.
