Women's Hoops Beats Loyola in Exhibition
BATON ROUGE - The LSU women’s basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a 64-29 win against Loyola of New Orleans in an exhibition game on Friday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back from there.
Ayana Mitchell, LSU’s top returning scorer and rebounder, totaled 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting with help from Raven Farley who neared a double-double for LSU, scoring nine points with 13 rebounds in the win.
LSU saw significant help from its bench who scored 24 points on the night.
The Lady Tigers showcased their talents on the defensive side of the ball, something coach Nikki Fargas has been happy about for her squad. LSU held Loyola to 22% shooting on 11-for-50 field goals. LSU forced 32 turnovers and scored 32 points off of them.
LSU ended the first period leading 17-7 and continued to apply pressure for the remainder of the game. In the second quarter, LSU continued to build on its lead and closed the first half with a 21-point lead.
The Lady Tigers led by as many as 35 points in the fourth quarter.
