MINNEAPOLIS – Friday of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships proved to be a good one for LSU sophomore Juan Celaya-Hernandez. Celaya-Hernandez earned First-Team All-America Honors for the second day in a row as he went on to finish fourth overall on the three-meter springboard.

“What a huge success this was today,” said LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer. “I couldn’t be happier for Juan and his tremendous performance. That was a very elite competition which went down to the very last dive. Juan definitely rose to the occasion. It was very exciting to be a part of today’s competition! Geaux Tigers!”

Celaya-Hernandez found himself in seventh at the end of the prelims, scoring a 428.20 to earn a spot in the finals.

In the finals, Celaya-Hernandez shattered his prelim score by over 40 points, finishing fourth overall with a score of 468.80. That score is the second highest score of his career, with the highest being a school-record 482.95 he scored earlier this year.

After today, the Mexico native now has four All-American honors. Today’s fourth place finish is his third first-team recognition. The sophomore also earned first team honors yesterday with a seventh-place finish on one-meter, and last season, where he finished third on three-meter. He is the seventh diver in school history to earn All-American honors four separate times.

Celaya-Hernandez will be joined by junior Matthew Phillip on platform tomorrow. Prelims are set to start at 12 p.m. tomorrow.
