Baton Rouge – Senior Claudia De Antonio continued her streak of good golf, leading the Lady Tigers to a second place team start after posting a round of 2-over par 74 in tough conditions at University Club.

De Antonio currently sits six shots off of lead in a tie for fourth place as an individual. Houston’s, Megan Thothong currently leads the tournament at 2-under par 70.

“It got very difficult on the back side. We knew the wind was coming and it did,” said LSU head coach Karen Bahnsen.

“Some of our younger players made some mistakes, because I don’t think they’ve played in these types of conditions. It’s extremely firm, so combining that with the strong winds, they just didn’t play some holes the right way.”

“I feel like (Friday) they learned and it helped them a lot so they wont have so many black holes (Saturday.) I was glad on how the girls battled and played. If we can just minimize some of the mistakes I feel really positive about going into (Saturday.)”

No. 26 Houston leads the tournament at 9-over par 297. No. 38 North Carolina State is tied for second place with LSU at 17-over par 305, while Southern Miss finished in fourth at +20 308. No. 25 Virginia rounded out the Top 5 with a team score of 25-over 313.

Junior Kathleen Gallagher had a strong start to the week carding a 3-over 75. She is currently tied for ninth place. Mary Frances Chauvin added to the Lady Tigers score with a round of 4-over par 76 placing her in the top-20. Sydney Cavin shot 8-over par 80 on the day, while Kendall Griffin finished at 10-over par 82. Individual Aoife O’Donovan had an impressive day, firing a 3-over par 75.

The tournaments second round will start Saturday at 8:30 CT, as LSU will tee off at 9:40 CT with Houston and North Carolina State. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
