BATON ROUGE -  The Court 3 pair for the No. 7 LSU beach volleyball of Emmy Allen and Maddie Ligon were named the CCSA Pair of the Week on Tuesday after going 3-1 over the weekend at the East vs. West Challenge in Los Angeles.

Allen and Ligon moved to 4-2 on the season as a duo after defeating pairs from three of the top four teams in the nation in No. 4 UCLA, No. 2 USC, and No. 1 Pepperdine.

“Emmy and Maddie have really been playing well,” said head coach Russell Brock. “We knew they had the ability to be successful as a pair in California against those teams so to see them come out and play that kind of volleyball was really fun. They have been working hard and it shows.”

To begin the weekend on the Manhattan Beach Pier, the duo made quick work against Savy Simo and Zana Muno from UCLA, defeating them in consecutive sets by a score of 21-15 in both.

Later Saturday, Allen and Ligon got the win against Joy Dennis and Haley Halgreen from USC. After winning the first set, 21-14, the LSU duo dropped set two, 21-16. In the third set, Allen and Ligon battled to an 18-16 defeat of Dennis and Halgreen to put the Tigers up 3-1 in the overall match against the Trojans, clinching the victory for LSU.

With that, Allen and Ligon helped LSU become just the sixth school, jointing Pepperdine, Long Beach State, Florida State, UCLA, and Hawaii as the only teams to have notched at least one victory over the Trojans all-time.

The pair came back out on Sunday to compete against Heidi Dyer, who was a 2017 All-American, and Gigi Hernandez of Pepperdine. Similarly to their first match of the weekend, Allen and Ligon worked quickly, winning in back-to-back sets, 21-14 and 21-15.

Allen, Ligon and the rest of The Tigers will be back in action this weekend at the Gamecock Grandslam in Columbia, South Carolina. While at Wheeler Beach, LSU will face No. 11 Georgia State, Jacksonville State, No. 1 Pepperdine and the host, No. 9 South Carolina.

LSU’s first home tournament of the season will take place at Mango’s off of Sherwood Forrest in Baton Rouge March 24 and 25.
