COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The No. 36 LSU women’s tennis team dropped its second-straight road match to the No. 11-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks by a score of 4-1 at the Carolina Tennis Center Saturday.

The Tigers fell to 10-4 (1-3 SEC) on the season with the loss while South Carolina moved to 12-3 (4-0 SEC).

The Gamecocks got the first point on the board via the doubles point with a pair of wins on courts two and three before advancing to singles play.

In singles, South Carolina increased its lead to 3-0 behind a couple of wins from Rachel Rohrabacher and No. 121 Megan Davies on courts six and five, respectively.

Freshman Eden Richardson pulled the Tigers to within 3-1 with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 performance against 2017 SEC All-Freshman Team and All-SEC Second Team member Mia Horvit on court three. Saturday’s win marked Richardson’s ninth-straight victory in singles competition and gives her a team-leading 21 total singles victories dating back to the fall.

With Ryann Foster and Jessica Golovin just beginning their third sets in a pair of close contests on the top two courts, the Gamecocks ultimately clinched the match with a straight-set win on court four shortly after Richardson’s match ended.

The women's tennis team will return to Baton Rouge in preparation for the No. 32 Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday, March 15 at 4 p.m. at the LSU Tennis Complex.
