Luht to Represent Estonia at European Championships
Communications Student Assistant
BATON ROUGE – Karl Luht has been selected represent Estonia at this summer’s European Championships. The European Championships will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, and run from August 3-12.
Luht had an impressive season for the Tigers, and his success played a major role in being selected to the Estonian squad. The sophomore from Tallinn earned three individual wins in dual-meet competition, as well as a slew of relay wins, including an upset win over Texas A&M in the 200 medley relay.
At the Art Adamson Invitational, Luht earned four second swims. In the finals, Luht finished 8th overall in the 100 back, 11th in the 50 free, 14th in the 100 fly, and 18th in the 100 free. Finally, at the SEC Championships, Luht swam a 100 back time of 46.16, the second fastest time in school history.
“Karl just missed out on the NCAA’s this year, but I think a silver-lining for him is that, for what he’s trying to do on the international stage, it’s a stepping-stone to represent Estonia in 2020 at the Olympics,” said LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer. “This is a huge step for him to take care of that FINA ‘A’-Cut, and get things rolling for next season. A good performance from him will definitely give him a confidence boost that will lift the rest of the team.”
