Track & Field Sends 15 to NCAA Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – This Friday and Saturday, LSU sends 15 qualifiers to the 2018 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. Competition will take place at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium for both days of action. will provide a live stream of the meet, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The No. 4-ranked LSU women have well-populated the national leaderboards in various sprint and hurdle events, most notably the 60-meter dash. Senior Mikiah Brisco, a member of The Bowerman Award Watch List, holds the nation’s second all-time best and LSU’s all-time No. 1 spot with a time of 7.08 seconds.

Teammates Aleia Hobbs (7.12), Kortnei Johnson (7.18) and Cassondra Hall (7.23) also qualified amongst the nation’s best, ranking second, third and 10th respectively in the nation.

With her performance in the SEC Championships, Brisco also qualified for the 200-meter as her 22.81 second performance is the second-fastest time in the nation this season and the third-fastest in school history. Johnson will run in the fourth heat of the 200 prelims on Friday with Brisco. Johnson posted a 22.88 during the season to rank sixth in the nation.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Tonea Marshall (8.04) and Brittley Humphrey (8.09) qualify by holding the No. 7 and No. 13 spots in the nation.

The 4x400 relay team of Rachel Misher, Kymber Payne, Hall and Zakiya Denoon close out the qualifiers for the Lady Tigers as they were crowned the SEC’s best on February 25, recording a time of 3:30.85. The team’s effort earned them the fourth-fastest time in the nation and a slot in the last heat on Saturday night in College Station.

After earning personal-best marks in the 200-meter a few weeks ago in the SEC Championships, Jaron Flournoy (20.62) and Correion Mosby (20.70) earned national qualifying times as they respectively hold the No. 11 and No. 14 spots in the nation.

Flournoy and Mosby, joined by teammates Renard Howell and Jahnoy Thompson, also qualify in the men’s 4x400 relay race on Saturday night. The team holds the seventh-best time this indoor season at 3:04.92.

Freshman Damion Thomas (60-meter hurdles) and JuVaughn Blake (high jump, long jump) round out the qualifiers for the Tigers this weekend.

Thomas, who was named the SEC’s Men’s Freshman Runner of the Year on Wednesday, holds the nation’s 12th-best time of 7.75 seconds.

Also, in his first collegiate season, Blake made his presence felt in two field events as he holds the No. 11 spot in the high jump (7’ 3.25’’) and No. 14 for the long jump (25’ 7.5’’). The rookie will compete in the long jump on Friday and the high jump on Saturday.
