Hambrick Named SEC Gymnast of the Week for Third Time

BATON ROUGE – For the third time this season, senior Myia Hambrick has been named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hambrick took home four titles and finished second on beam Friday night against No. 24 Missouri. Hambrick posted a 39.625 in the all-around, tied her career high on vault with a 9.95, and tied her career high on floor with a 9.975.
Overall, Hambrick is the top performer in the nation on floor with an average score of 9.963. The Temple, Georgia native also ranks sixth in the all-around, 12th on bars and 18th on beam. Hambrick is one of four gymnasts in the country to score a 9.90 on floor in five or more meets and the only gymnast to score a 9.95 or higher in every meet on the event.
LSU gymnasts have combined to earn six SEC weekly honors in 2018. Sarah Finnegan was named the gymnast of the week after wins over Alabama and Arkansas. Sami Durante was named the freshman of the week after her performance against the Crimson Tide. Finnegan also earned the top honor in the conference after wins over Florida and Kentucky.
