PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – LSU junior Luis Gagne closed out Tuesday’s round at the Sea Best Invitational in red figures as he carded a team best 4-under 66, while fellow junior Nathan Jeansonne added a 2-under 68 to help the Tigers secure a fourth-place finish.

Freshmen Trey Winstead and Jacob Bergeron closed out the day with matching rounds of 3-over 73, while sophomore Philip Barbaree added a final round of 5-over 75. Individual Blake Caldwell finished the tournament posting a solid score of 2-over 72.

The Tigers finished fourth in the final team standings after posting a team score of 2-over 280 on Tuesday for a 54-hole score of 2-over 842. South Florida earned a 1-shot victory over Arkansas with a winning total of 6-under 834 for the week. Liberty finished four shots off of second at 839 (-1) for three rounds. Tennessee rounded out the top five after posting a total of 843 (+3).

Steady Play From the Veterans

The two juniors in the LSU lineup closed out the Tigers’ week with solid rounds. Gagne’s final round of 66, which included five birdies and just one bogey, moved him into a tie for 11th place. Three of his birdies came on the back nine at holes 12, 14 and 16. Jeansonne’s round of 68 propelled the Tigers up to fourth.

Jeansonne started Tuesday’s round a little shaky with bogies on holes one and three, but he responded with four-straight birdies on holes four through seven. After carding a 2-under 33 on the front nine, Jeansonne finished the back nine even par to give him his first Top-5 finish of the year, tied for fifth.

On Deck

The Tigers return to action in La Quinta, California, on Feb. 19-21 at The Prestige at PGA West. They follow with the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to kick off March.
