Jeansonne Leads Tigers After Two Rounds at TPC Sawgrass

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.Nathan Jeansonne opened his spring season Monday by firing rounds of 2-under 68 and even-par 70 to lead the No. 7-ranked Tigers into a tie for sixth place on the opening day of the 10th annual Sea Best Invitational.

Jeansonne was the only Tiger to break par during Monday’s action as he is currently four shots off the lead in a tie for 10th place on the individual leaderboard.

The Tigers posted a team score of 2-over par 562 over the first two rounds on Monday. LSU shot 3-over 283 to start the morning, followed by a 1-under 279 to finish the afternoon.

Arkansas jumped out to a good start, securing the 36-hole lead with a two-round total of 11-under 549 giving them a four-shot lead over South Florida who is in second place at 7-under par 553. Liberty followed in third place at 6-under par 554, while Tennessee was the final team to break par at 2-under 558. North Carolina rounded out the Top 5 of the team standings at even par on the day and a total of 560.

Jeansonne is looking to build off of his current 2-under 138 and grab his second Top-10 finish of the season after he tied for seventh in the first fall tournament of the year.

Sophomore Philip Barbaree had a solid start for the Tigers and is currently tied for 20th after posting a morning score 1-over par 71 and 1-under 69 for the afternoon with a 36-hole total of even par 140. Junior Luis Gagne and freshman Trey Winstead added equal scores of 2-over par on the day. Gagne opened the day with a score of 3-over 73 and 1-under 69 to conclude his 36-hole day, while Winstead had two rounds of 1-over par 71. Jacob Bergeron also added a score of 9-over par after a morning round of 5-over par 75 and an afternoon round of 4-over 74. Individual competitor Blake Caldwell posted a 36-hole total of 5-over par after rounds of 3-over par 73 and 2-over par 72.

North Carolina’s William Register and Liberty’s Ervin Chang are tied for the lead going into the final round on Tuesday, edging Lipscomb’s Eric Ansett by one shot. Register and Chang both fired 36-hole totals of 134, while Ansett posted a 5-under 135.

The Tigers are paired with North Carolina and Tennessee for Tuesday’s final round at the 10th-annual Sea Best Invitational as they will tee off from hole one starting at 8:45 a.m. CT.
