Softball Announces Plans for Performance Center
Asst. Communications Director
BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU athletic department, the Tiger Athletic Foundation and the LSU softball program is excited to announce the plans of a brand new indoor facility at Tiger Park. The LSU Softball Performance Center will be one of the top indoor facilities among college softball and the biggest indoor facility among the SEC with space of 14,500 square feet.
There will be a space specifically dedicated to a 1,279 square foot softball weight room to go along with 770 square feet on the second floor specifically for cardio equipment.
“Our coaching staff does not want to miss an opportunity to express our gratitude to the donors who have assisted specifically with this project and to all of our dedicated fans who have supported this program so strongly,” said head coach Beth Torina. “Our staff had a vision for this facility, and we were able to make this vision a reality largely in part to the diligent work by the individuals at the Tiger Athletic Foundation. We are thankful to everyone in the LSU family, past and current, who have assisted us in seeing this project to its completion.”
The LSU Softball Performance Center will have a full sized infield with custom, motorized netting surrounding the entire surface. This will allow the team to participate in full infield, hitting, slapping or pitching drills regardless of weather conditions outside.
Each hitting lane will have wired electricity which will provide the staff and student-athletes the capability to set up multiple batting machines throughout the facility. The facility will also be wired for a custom multi-camera system that will provide the student-athletes and staff with a chance to immediately review film during practice.
“This facility truly sets the table for us in terms of developing our current athletes while also providing the next generation of LSU Softball players with the opportunity to excel at the highest level here at LSU,” said Torina. “We at LSU pride ourselves in providing a first rate experience for our student-athletes.”
The building will also be equipped with 517 square feet of storage space and a 240 square foot locker room area. Lighting will be energy efficient with impact-resistant LED fixtures. A custom turf, that will mirror real grass in terms of playability and performance, will be installed with LSU branding through the entire indoor. Graphics will be placed throughout the interior of the facility that will honor the history of LSU softball.
“Our administration ensured that the development of this facility was a priority for LSU Softball. We are taking another step in the process of creating excellence daily at LSU by providing our athletes with an indoor training facility that is second to none.”
A date for breaking ground and naming rights will be announced at a later date.
