BATON ROUGE --- The No. 25 LSU women’s tennis team defeated the Alcorn St. Lady Braves by a couple of 4-1 scores in Wednesday’s doubleheader at the LSU Tennis Complex.

After clinching the doubles point in the first match with a pair 6-0 victories on courts one and two, the Tigers took to the singles courts to continue a strong showing against the Lady Braves.

No. 66 Jessica Golovin was the first off the court in singles, picking up her seventh-straight victory dating back to the fall with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Anastasia Vaganova on court three to give LSU the 2-1 lead.

Kennan Johnson followed right behind with a 6-2, 6-0 showing against Alessandra Maganuco on court four before No. 56 Eden Richardson closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 on court two against Ammaarah Tim.

After a brief rest period, the Tigers returned for the second match and competed in an even more convincing fashion in singles.

Golovin was the first off the court yet again, this time with a 6-0, 6-0 dismantling of Ammarah Tim on court two.

Golovin was followed by freshmen Luba Vasilyuk and Richardson with a pair of double-bagels of their own before senior Ryann Foster finished off the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory to give LSU the 4-1 win in the second and final match of the day.

The Tigers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 17 against Nicholls at the LSU Tennis Complex at noon.
