HOUSTON – The LSU women’s swimming and diving team was able to maintain their leads and come out victorious over Houston, Rice, and Tulane on Saturday morning in Houston. The Tigers beat Houston 248-105, Rice 253-94, and Tulane 274-78.

The highlight of the day came from the diving well, where Lizzie Cui was victorious on the women’s one-meter springboard. Cui posted a score of 320.05, her second highest score of the season. Cui also secured an undefeated record in dual meet competition.

“I’m very confident with where we are going into SEC’s,” said LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Congratulations to Lizzie for an undefeated dual-meet season. We will be very focused in the weeks ahead and are excited for our championship season.”

The women also won six of the eight events in the pool and had three personal-best times.

“There was great competition across the pool, and we have the utmost respect for the other three programs as they prepare for their conference championships,” said LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer.

The 500 freestyle was the only individual event the Tigers did not win, but they claimed second, third, and fourth courtesy of Tennyson Henry, Megan Loop, and Alyssa Helak, who swam times of 4:54.66, 4:55.83, and 4:58.74, respectively. Both Loop and Helak came away with personal-best times.

“We seemed a little sluggish in warmups, but our 500 crew with Tennyson, Megan, and Alyssa really got the women fired up and we rode that momentum through the meet.”

The women certainly kept the momentum going, as they went on to win the final six events.

The best swim of the day came from Cassie Kalisz. The freshman took gold in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.07 while setting a new personal-best time, making the NCAA B-Cut standard, and jumping up to third on the all-time list.

Alexandria Ham and Katie Smith also took second and third, posting times of 1:59.38 and 2:00.58, respectively.

The other B-Cut time of the day came from Summer Spradley, who swam a 1:02.10 in the 100 breaststroke to claim the victory.

Gabrielle Pick was able to get her first individual win of the meet in the 200 butterfly, coming in at a time of . Nicole Rozier was also able to take bronze with a time of 2:03.03.

Next up was the 100 free, where Leyre Casarin also got her first individual win of the meet, touching the wall at 50.91 seconds.

In the final individual event of the day, the Tigers got first and second place finishes in the 400 individual medley. Alexandria Ham won with a time of 4:22.61, while Lauren Thompson was right behind her at 4:23.39.

The women also finished the meet with first and second place finishes in the 400 free relay. The winning team of Jane MacDougall, Summer Spradley, Grace Horton and Leyre Casarin swam a 3:23.16, while Tennyson Henry, Lauren McIntosh, Katie Smith and Cassie Kalisz combined for a time of 3:27.59.

“I think as a whole piece this is what we were looking for this weekend,” explained Geyer. “The opportunity for our women to gain some confidence in the training they have put in is great to see in a racing format. We have done some really great things in our training and to see it start to come together in our last meet was the goal coming in.”

Next up for the Tigers is the SEC Championships, which will be held in College Station on Feb. 14-18.
