BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU softball team, who is coming off of its third-straight Women’s College World Series appearance, is back on the field as the Tigers returned to work Saturday afternoon for its first official spring practice.

“There is nothing like day one,” said head coach Beth Torina. “It’s like Christmas. Every day one is the same feeling when I drive in that parking lot. It’s excitement, it’s nerves. It’s all the emotions rolled into one. It’s a fun, great day and it’s exciting.”

Over the course of the last couple months, the Tigers engaged in strength and conditioning workouts, individual and team practices and competed against each other and some opponents. Saturday’s practice started out under the sun and finished under the lights as the Tigers worked on many aspects of the game.

“Our team had a strong fall,” said Torina. “They accomplished a lot of things and stayed together. It was very enjoyable for all of us. They are excited and ready to be back together.”

LSU returns 13 players from the 2017 squad, including All-American pitchers in Carley Hoover and Allie Walljasper that went 48-22 last year. The Tigers added seven newcomers to the roster.

“It feels like Christmas all over again,” said senior outfielder Emily Griggs. “It is exciting to put the cleats back on.”

The Tigers open the season February 8 at home in Tiger Park, hosting Illinois-Chicago before hosting the Tiger Classic, February 9 and 10, which includes UT-Arlington, Southern Miss, UMass and Syracuse. Click here for the full 2018 schedule.
