KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The LSU diving team finished strong on the final day of the Tennessee Diving Invitational. Three of the five Tigers that competed finished in the top 10 on platform.

The men had two divers finish in the top six on men’s platform. Juan Celaya-Hernandez finished second with a score of 430.40, and was just 1.90 points away from winning the competition. With that score, Celaya-Hernandez smashed his previous season-best score on platform by 67.80 points.

"Juan had his best platform event to date and an excellent invite, where he won three out of five events," said LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer.

Junior Matthew Phillip took home sixth place after scoring a 338.70, while Dakota Hurbis finished 18th, diving to a score of 262.20.

The women were led by Lizzie Cui, who pushed her way to another top-ten finish. Cui finished 10th, scoring a 219.20, while Makayla Robillard finished 18th after scoring a 197.20.

"Overall, I'm very happy with the start to 2018," said Shaffer. "We've shown very good progress and development while at the same time we know exactly what we need to work on. I'm excited to move our focus towards the championship season."

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Athens to take on Georgia at the Gabrielson Natatorium in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan 13.
