Women's Basketball Hosts Vanderbilt to Start SEC Play
BATON ROUGE – Everyone goes back to 0-0 as SEC women’s basketball teams begin conference play on Sunday, Dec. 31. The LSU women’s basketball team (8-3) brings a six-game win streak to the Maravich Center against Vanderbilt (4-10). Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
Sunday’s game will be televised on the SEC Network, and broadcast worldwide on the LSU Sports Radio Network and locally in Baton Rouge on flagship station Talk 107.3 FM. Melissa Lee and Nell Fortner will call the action for SECN, while Patrick Wright handles the radio duties. Links to audio, video and live stats are available at LSUSports.net.

This will be the 47th meeting between LSU and the Commodores. Vanderbilt holds the series lead, 26-20, while LSU holds a 14-4 lead when games are played in Baton Rouge. Vanderbilt is led by senior Rachel Bell and freshman Chelsie Hall. Bell and Hall are averaging 14.4 and 13.4 points per game, respectively.
This is the first time that the two teams have faced each other in an SEC opener. LSU is 11-5 in SEC opening games played at home.
During LSU’s current winning streak, the Lady Tigers are out-scoring their opponents by a +15.0 average margin and winning the second half 212-159. Defensively, LSU is averaging 11.2 steals per game while opponents are only taking the ball away from the Lady Tigers 5.8 times per game. In addition to the current win streak, LSU is currently 8-0 when playing in the PMAC.
Overall, senior Raigyne Louis is leading the team with a 15.9 scoring average, followed by junior Chloe Jackson with 14.9 points per game. Louis was the team’s leading scorer in the recent 71-58 victory over Sam Houston State with 19 points and a career-high five three-point field goals made. Freshman Dekeriya Patterson returned to action against SHSU with a career-high 14 points after missing three games with a concussion.
Head coach Nikki Fargas has used a speedier lineup over the past five games. Along with regular starters Louis, Jackson and Ayana Mitchell, Shanice Norton and Jaelyn Richard-Harris are getting the Lady Tigers into the game quickly and holding opponents to 60 or fewer points in the last five outings.
LSU heads out on the road to face Missouri on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on the SEC Network Plus. Ben Arnet and Jarrett Sutton will call the game from Columbia, with Patrick Wright calling the action for the worldwide radio audience on the LSU Sports Radio Network.
Girls’ Night Out
The Lady Tigers will join head coach Nikki Fargas at her weekly radio show on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018 at TJ Ribs on Acadian Thruway. The show begins at 7 p.m. and the team will be available for autographs during the show.
What’s New This Season at the PMAC
Fans are reminded that the Geaux Clear Policy will be in effect for all LSU women’s basketball home games. An change to the policy is the inclusion of diaper bags. Diaper bags must be clear and no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”. Backpacks, including drawstring/synch bags are strictly prohibited.
Fans with medically-necessary items will be allowed to enter the PMAC following a more thorough search at the designated inspection points. The lower level inspection will take place at the southeast corner entrance near the elevator and upper level inspection is available at the S concourse near the Ticket Office.
