Volleyball Faces Mississippi State on the Road

BATON ROUGE – The LSU volleyball team (17-7, 8-5 SEC) will be on the road this week for one match, facing Mississippi State (9-19, 0-13 SEC) Friday at 3 p.m. CT in the Newell-Grissom Building.
The matchup will air live on SEC Network+. Fans can access the match online through WatchESPN.com and the app.

Last Time Out
LSU fell to Missouri in three sets on Sunday by scores of 16-25, 26-28 and 15-25. Sophomore Milan Stokes came off the bench to lead the Tigers with 13 kills. Freshman Taylor Bannister added eight kills while freshman Raigen Cianciulli registered a team-high eight digs. Sophomore setter Anna Zwiebel dished out 28 assists.
A Look at Mississippi State
Mississippi State sits in last place of the SEC with an 0-13 record. Overall they are 9-19 on the season. The Bulldogs are coming off a four-set loss to Ole Miss. It was the first time the Bulldogs took a set from an opponent since Sept. 24 against Tennessee. The Bulldogs are hitting .156 as a team with Jelena Vujcin leading the way in kills with a total of 332, averaging 3.42 per set. Morgan Kath directs the offense and average 8.86 assists per set. Gabby Zgunda and Payton Harris anchor the back row, averaging 2.60 and 2.98 digs per set, respectively.
All-Time vs. Mississippi State
LSU leads the all-time series against Mississippi State 57-9.The last time the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs twice in a season was in 2012. In the last meeting on October 6, the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-22. The last time the Tigers won in Starkville was on September 28, 2012.
>> After going 1-1 last weekend, the Tigers remain in fourth place of the SEC, behind Missouri. LSU is 8-5 in the league and 17-7 overall and has an RPI of 35.
>> The last times the Tigers had at least 17 wins in a season was in 2014. The Tigers finished 20-9 on the year and 14-4 in the SEC, earning a post-season bid to the NCAA Tournament.
>> Against Mississippi State last time, the Tigers claimed the victory in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-22. In that match, Taylor Bannister led with a match-high 13 kills and Gina Tillis registered a match-high 21 digs.
