First Tipoff Luncheon at L'Auberge Draws Packed House

BATON ROUGE – Basketball Coach Will Wade’s first Tipoff Luncheon delivered by UPS was held Tuesday before a packed house at the Bon Temps Buffett at the L’Auberge Casino as the opening men’s basketball game is set for Friday night at 7 p.m. against Alcorn State.
Coach Wade’s guest for the opening luncheon was women’s basketball Coach Nikki Fargas whose team will open on the road Friday, but will play its home opener at 2 p.m. Sunday against Southeastern. The day will be highlighted by the jersey retirement of LSU Athletic Hall of Famer Sylvia Fowles and that will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Both coaches talked about their teams and what some of the prospects for this coming season. Coach Wade also told the crowd about the team’s retreat to Mississippi in which they came up with four words that hopefully will define the Tigers and his first team this year: Family. Smart. Tough. Consistent.
Tickets for both team’s home openers are available at LSUtix.net. Tickets for Friday’s men’s game start at $1 and tickets are also available at six are Winn-Dixie stores. There will be a fanfest prior to the Friday game starting at 5:30 p.m. with a live band until 6:30 p.m.
