Brandi’s Corner
“To be honest, I thought they did a good job today,” co-head coach Andy Brandi said. “When you look at this morning, Julian (Saborio) had some brilliant moments and really showed signs of the level of tennis that he could play. The same goes for this afternoon. He just ran out of gas. The bottom line is that he needs to be in better shape for what’s ahead. Agie (Moreno), if he would have played the way he played from 5-0 down, he would have been competitive. Nikola (Samardzic) fought with himself a little too much, but when he needed to, he came through. Rafael (Wagner) was absolutely brilliant.”

“Overall, it was another good day. When you look at the fact that we are above .500 in wins against some of the best players in the region, I think they are doing a good job.”

Singles Qualifying Finals
Sophomore Julian Saborio rattled off back-to-back tiebreaker sets. He defeated UL-Lafayette’s Jamie Fraser, 7-6(4), 7-6(12) to advance to the singles main draw round of 64.

After falling behind 6-4 in the first set and 5-0 early in the second set, Agie Moreno fought back to work the second set to 5-4 but was unable to hold on as UAB’s Kenton Parton secured the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

Singles Main Draw Round of 64
In his first match of the ITA Southern Regional, Wagner was the first Tiger to advance to Saturday’s round of 32 after defeating Samford’s Eduardo Lourido with a straight-set, 6-0, 6-2 victory. He will face the nine-seed Florian Broska of Mississippi State at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Junior Samardzic also advanced to the round of 32 after securing a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win against South Alabama’s Olivar Gingras, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. The New York native will square off against the five seed from Ole Miss, Fabian Fallert.

After advancing to the main draw with two qualifying round wins, sophomore Saborio notched a first set, 6-4, win but was unable to secure the win, falling in back-to-back sets, 6-3, 6-2, to Ole Miss’ Filip Kralijevic.
