Brandi’s Corner
“I thought we did a good job overall,” co-head coach Andy Brandi said. “Some of them were a little rusty. Julian (Saborio) played a much better second match. Agie (Moreno) played a much better match this afternoon. He needed to do a little bit of a better job closing it out. Stewart (Block) was completely different in the afternoon than what he was in the morning. In the morning he was very controlled, very composed with not a lot of unforced errors. In the afternoon when he played a better opponent, he just made way too many unforced errors. I was happy with the first day.”

“I’m looking forward to improving on the level of play. As you get later into the tournament, the matches get tougher, so your level of play has to rise.”

First Round Qualifying Singles
On the first championship court, Saborio had a thriller of a match to open up the ITA Southern Regional. The sophomore defeated Troy’s Jiaqui Duan in back-to-back tiebreakers by a final score of 7-6(3), 7-6(4).

Freshman Stewart Block notched his first win at the LSU Tennis Complex with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory against Troy’s Jorge Poyatos.

Second Round Qualifying Singles
In his second match of the day, Saborio dominated with a 6-2, 6-4 win against UNO’s Alexis Guedy.

Moreno debuted in the ITA Southern regional with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win against Auburn’s Viboosh Chandresekar on championship court one.

Block was unable to secure his second win of the day after falling to UL-Lafayette’s Arthur Libaud, 6-3, 6-2.
