Women's Tennis Wins Five on Opening Day

WACO, Texas – The LSU women’s tennis team earned victories in three singles matches and two doubles matches on the first day of the H-E-B Invitational at the Hurd Tennis Center Friday.
Ryann Foster and Elyse Lavender got the day started with an 8-7(6) doubles tiebreak victory over TCU’s pairing of Stevie Kennedy and Alexis Pereira in the round of 16, then returned to the court to defeat Houston’s Tsveta Dimitrova and Sveva Mazzari 8-7 in the doubles quarterfinals.
In singles, No. 64 Foster defeated Louisiana Tech’s Karla de la Luz Montalvo in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, advancing to tomorrow’s round of 16.
Golovin beat Claudia Orvacova in an impressive 6-1, 6-1 takedown, while Richardson split the first two sets with Maria Shishkina of Tyler College before taking the third set in convincing fashion, 6-1.
Foster and Lavender will kick off the second day of competition Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. when they take on Baylor’s Jessica Hinojosa Gomez and Livia Kraus in the doubles semifinals.
Singles play will continue beginning at noon with Foster’s matchup against Tyler’s Tamara Arnold, while Golovin will face off against No. 85 Tsveta Dimitrova of Houston and Richardson will face Meredith Roberts of TCU.
