BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team, the reigning Southeastern Conference champions and NCAA National Runners-Up, competed in its first intrasquad of the fall Friday afternoon inside the Gymnastics Training Facility.

“We had a really great intrasquad today and took a step forward in developing depth,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “We were especially pleased with the performance on bars and beam. Floor is still in the development stages and vault was great with a lot of height.”

The 2018 squad features two NCAA champions, a pair of SEC event champions, and six gymnasts who combined to earn 18 All-America honors. The Tigers also bring an impressive freshmen class of seven gymnasts. The group of freshmen features former Elite National Team members, former J.O. National Team members, and top Level 10 gymnasts.

One of the top vault lineups in the country led by assistant coach Bob Moore, the squad featured four 10.0 vaults with freshman Sarah Edwards highlighting the afternoon in the second spot. The bars lineup included four of six gymnasts from a year ago with senior Erin Macadaeg and freshman Gracen Standley finding a spot.

Macadaeg continued as the leadoff on beam followed by senior Myia Hambrick for arguably the best 1-2 punch in the country. Lexie Priessman and McKenna Kelley also found their way into the lineup on beam with newcomer Bridget Dean also highlighting the third rotation. The team closed out with a successful floor rotation and the gymnasts will continue to develop their routines throughout the fall in preparation for Gym 101 and the season.

LSU will offer a free preview of the 2018 team in Gymnastics 101on Monday, Dec. 11, inside the Maravich Center. Labeled a “Gymnastics Showcase,” Gymnastics 101 will provide fans a first look at the 2018 Tigers who will perform routines on all four events.
