Men's Tennis Finishes Weekend at Cajun Classic
Communications Graduate Assistant
LAFAYETTE, La. – The LSU men’s tennis team wrapped up its weekend at the John Breaux Cajun Classic with all four Tiger competitors playing Sunday morning at UL-Lafayette.
“Today, we lost the close ones, but all of the guys fought as hard as they could,” co-head coach Chris Brandi said. “I am very proud of their efforts this weekend. It’s always a positive when you have multiple guys playing on the last day. We learned a lot about where we are at and what we need to improve upon. Overall, it was a very positive weekend, and we are excited to get back to work.”
In the Flight 2 finals, Nikola Samardzic recorded a fist set win but eventually fell to Texas’ Colin Markes, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Gabor Csonka dropped his match to Texas Tech’s Connor Curry in a third set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(7), in Flight 1 consolation singles.
Agie Moreno lost the first set to Kentucky’s Gus Benson, but fought back to push the match into a third set tiebreaker. The sophomore eventually lost his Flight 2 consolation singles match, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0(5).
In a side singles match, Rafael Wagner recorded the Tiger’s lone win of the day as he defeated Nico Stojka of UL-Lafayette in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
The LSU men’s tennis team returns to action at the Commodore Scramble in Nashville, Tennessee from September 29-October 1.
