Farrow Leads XC Teams, Finishes 13th in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. – In her second race as a Lady Tiger, junior Ersula Farrow led both teams’ efforts with a 13th-place finish in the Bulldog SEC Preview this morning at the UGA Golf Course. Farrow recorded a time of 22 minutes, 39.8 seconds on the 6k course.

Fellow newcomer, freshman Eric Coston, led the men’s team on the 8k course with a time of 26:08.90, earning 25th place. 

Head Coach Mark Rinker noted that, “Eric ran a smart race in his first 8k to lead the men and Ersula raced really well over the last half of the race.” 

The men’s team had a sixth-place team finish with 151 points, and the women’s team also placed sixth, earning 155 points. 

Behind Farrow for the Lady Tigers was fellow junior Erika Lewis. Lewis crossed in 23rd place, recording a time of 23:02.50. Freshmen Kristin Delgado, Heather Cizek and Alicia Stamey finished after for the Lady Tigers in 49th, 63rd and 64th place respectively. 

Delgado finished with a time of 23:46.20. Cizek and Stamey recorded respective times of 24:26.40 and 24:31.00.

Sophomore Annie Jung finished in 70th place individually with a time of 25:00.10. Junior Monica Guillot and senior Rebecca Little closed out the Lady Tigers’ efforts with 76th and 78th-place finishes. They recorded respective times of 25:34.10 and 26:05.00.

After Coston for the Tigers was junior Dajour Braxton and sophomore Harrison Martingayle. Braxton finished in 29th place with a time of 26:17.30, and Martingayle recorded a time of 26:25.2 earning 34th place.

Seniors Daniel Tanner, DC Lipani and Bryan Stamey were the fourth, fifth and sixth Tigers to finish in Athens. 

Tanner recorded a time of 26:48.60, finishing in 42nd place. Lipani and Stamey earned 54th and 63rd place respectively. Lipani finished with a time of 27:12.30, and Stamey crossed the finish in 27:47.80. 

Senior Jack Wilkes rounded out the Tigers with a 63rd-place finish with a time of 28:14.90.  

Rinker feels that both teams can take progressive steps to learn from this race.

“It was great to get out and get a feel for the SEC course,” Rinker said. “The teams ran tough and got some great experience. We will get back to work and prepare for the SEC Championships later this season.”

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will return home next weekend to host the LSU Invitational at Highland Road Park on September 16. The women are scheduled to begin the meet at 7:30 a.m. CT with the men following at 8:10 a.m. CT.
