LSU Sports Interactive
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU senior pitcher Jared Poche' was named Wednesday to the 2017 SEC Baseball Community Service Team by the conference office.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all of its league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service activities.
Poche', a native of Lutcher, La., has been one of the leaders of the baseball program's outstanding community service effort for the past season. He has accumulated 79 community service hours during the year.
Poche' worked extensively in August 2016 to help residents who were tragically affected by the flooding that struck south Louisiana last summer. He worked tirelessly in three different Louisiana parishes to help clear debris and assist homeowners in the rebuilding process.
Among his other community service projects, Poche' worked as an instructor at youth baseball clinics, and he participated in LSU's annual Halloween Boo-zar, where student-athletes distribute candy to children in the Baton Rouge community.
Poche' also participated in children's hospital visits to lift the spirits of patients, including a visit to the Shriners' Hospital for Children in Houston.
Poche graduated from LSU last week with a degree in kinesiology. He was voted to the 2016 SEC Academic Honor Roll, and he was named the recipient of the 2016 Wally Pontiff Jr. Scholar Athlete Award for LSU Baseball.
