LSU leads the series with Northwestern State, 56-11, and the Tigers have won 18 of the past 19 meetings, including a 7-2 victory over the Demons last season in Baton Rouge. The Demons' only win in the past 19 games with LSU was a 5-2 victory on April 12, 2011, in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

LSU posted an SEC series sweep over Auburn last weekend, and the Tigers moved into sole possession of first place in the SEC Western Division. LSU has a one-game lead over second-place Mississippi State with three games remaining in the SEC regular-season race.

The Tigers will face Mississippi State beginning Thursday night in Starkville in a series that will determine the Western Division champion. LSU is also in contention for the SEC overall title, as the Tigers are just one game behind SEC Eastern Division leader Florida.

“It's hard to believe that we're already in the final week of the regular season,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri, “and I'm very proud of the way our players have performed to put us in a position to play for championships. We have to take care of business this week, beginning with Northwestern State, which has a tradition-rich program and a very capable team. I know Northwestern will be ready to challenge us, so our players need to match their intensity and continue to play at a high level.”

Freshman centerfielder Zach Watson led LSU's offensive effort in the Auburn series, batting .545 (6-for-11) with one homer, two RBI and two runs. Watson is batting a team-high .333 this season with seven doubles, two triples, three homers, 19 RBI, 22 runs and eight stolen bases.

Junior catcher Michael Papierski batted .400 (2-for-5) in three games versus Auburn with two homers, five RBI, three runs, three walks, two sacrifice bunts and a .625 on-base percentage. Papierski's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday against Auburn right-hander Keegan Thomson broke a 3-3 tie and lifted LSU to a 5-3 victory.

LSU junior rightfielder Greg Deichmann is hitting .321 this season and has team highs of 16 homers and 58 RBI. Deichmann has also drawn 33 walks, and he has a .413 on-base percentage.

Northwestern State is batting .244 as a team with 29 homers and 23 steals in 38 attempts. Junior infielder David Fry is batting .349 for the Demons with 20 doubles, 10 homers and 43 RBI.

NSU junior outfielder Cade Jones is batting .305 with eight doubles, four triples, three homers and 22 RBI.
