Notes on the Tigers
LSU won three of four games last week, including a 2-1 series win against Ole Miss in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field … the series win was LSU’s 19th straight over the Rebels in Baton Rouge; the last series win for Ole Miss on LSU’s home field came in 1982 … Junior rightfielder Greg Deichmann batted .412 (7-for-17) in the Tigers’ four games last week with two doubles, two homers, six RBI, three runs and one stolen base … in LSU’s series win over Ole Miss, Deichmann hit. 385 (5-for-13) with one double, two homers, six RBI, three runs and one steal … Deichmann launched a grand slam in Thursday’s 15-2 win over Ole Miss, the second grand slam of his career … his first career grand slam came last season in the NCAA Regional versus Rice … Deichmann also provided a solo homer in the third inning of Game 3 on Saturday that gave LSU a 2-1 lead and proved to be the game-winning hit, as the Tigers never lost the lead and posted a 3-2 victory … Deichmann leads LSU this season in batting average (.345), home runs (12) and RBI (43) … junior right-hander Alex Lange defeated Ole Miss on Thursday, limiting the Rebels to no runs on just three hits in seven innings with one walk and seven strikeouts … Lange, who threw 92 pitches in the outing, had a perfect game through the first four innings of the contest … he did not allow an Ole Miss player to advance beyond second base, and he recorded his 24th career win in three seasons at LSU … Lange increased his strikeout total this season to 69, which No. 3 in the SEC … freshman right-hander Eric Walker recorded his fifth win in five decisions this season with a victory on Saturday over Ole Miss … Walker limited the Rebels to two runs on six hits in 6.2 innings with no walks and five strikeouts … Walker increased his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 18 before the Rebels scored a run against him in the top of the third inning on Saturday … Walker had previously fired seven scoreless innings on April 1 versus Texas A&M, and he recorded a complete-game shutout on April 9 at Arkansas … sophomore leftfielder Antoine Duplantis hit .400 (4-for-10) in the Ole Miss series with one double, four RBI and three runs scored … freshman centerfielder Zach Watson enters Tuesday’s game versus Lamar riding an 11-game hitting streak; Watson is batting .359 (14-for-39) during the streak with two doubles, one triple, one homer, three RBI, six runs and two stolen bases.
