FORT WORTH, Texas - For the second consecutive weekend, the No. 8 ranked LSU beach volleyball team (10-5) swept their slate of matches, rallying back to defeat No. 7 Arizona and knocking off No. 11 Arizona State in a rematch Saturday on the final day of the Horned Frog Challenge at the TCU Courts.

The team will return to action next weekend in the GSU Diggin’ Duals in Atlanta, Georgia at the GSU Complex.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with how hard we played this weekend. Getting four wins against those teams in those conditions is a fantastic result. I’m really proud of the progress our group is making,” said head coach Russell Brock.

In the first match against Arizona, freshman duo Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss put LSU on the board first with a win in straight sets 21-13, 21-15, at the two. Arizona tied the match after Cati Leak and Maddie Ligon fell on court four in a three-setter by a score of 21-17, 19-21, 8-15.

The Lady Wildcats took the 2-1 lead at the one after Emmy Allen and Lilly Kessler were defeated in straights 11-21, 15-21. Young and Davenport tied the match at two apiece after garnering a tightly-contested 21-19, 21-19 win at the five.

No. 3 pair Katie Lindelow and Olivia Powers lifted LSU to victory after working a three setter 21-13, 19-21, 15-6, giving LSU the 3-2 win over Arizona.

In a rematch against Arizona State, Leak and Ligon rebounded with a straight-set victory 21-16, 21-18 at the four. On court two, down 8-1 in the third set, Coppola and Nuss put on a furious comeback, battling back to clinch the set 18-16 to give LSU the 2-0 advantage.

Arizona State cut LSU’s lead to 2-1 after Allen and Kessler fell in straights on court one by a score of 17-21, 19-21. Lindelow and Powers tallied the Lady Tigers’ third point of the match in a two-setter by a score of 21-18, 21-13.

Davenport and Young closed out the match, notching a straight-set victory at 22-20, 21-14, giving LSU the match, 4-1, and the sweep of the Horned Frog Challenge.

In all, the No. 5 pairing of Young and Davenport were impressive over the weekend, earning four straight wins over the weekend. Against TCU and the first match against Arizona State, the duo notched the match-clinching point in both matches, lifting LSU to victory.

Lindelow and Powers were dominant, collecting all four of their wins in straight sets. The tandem also picked up their 10th-straight win on the season.

“Our job now is to be committed as a team to find ways to continue to improve individually as a group,” added Brock. “We can’t wait to get back to Baton Rouge, recover and get back to work.”
