Lady Tiger Golfers Begin Play Friday

BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s golf team begins play on Friday in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cover Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The tournament is played over the par 71, 6,160 yard Pete Dye Course in which is the sixth annual event named and supported by country music star Darius Rucker, who performs for the teams after the welcome banquet prior to the tournament’s start.
Joining LSU and host South Carolina in the event are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor Duke, Furman, Georgia, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest. In the latest Golfstat rankings, Alabama is the top team in the field at No. 5 with Furman (6), Georgia (7) and Arizona State (8) all ranked in the top 10.
Alabama is the defending champion, winning by seven shots over Virginia at 16-over 868 with Alabama’s Cheyenne Knight winning the individual title at even par 213 (67-74-72).
All-American senior Caroline Nistrup will lead the Lady Tigers in the lineup for the Rucker as she fired rounds of 74-70-74 for a 2-over 218 to finish in a tie for 16th place.
LSU has had success in this event finishing in a tie for second in 2015, a tie for third in 2014 and a tie for second in 2013. Former Tiger Madelene Sagstrom posted -6 under 207 and lost in a playoff for the individual honor in 2015 and Nistrup fell in a playoff in her freshman year of 2014 when she tied for the individual crown at 2-under 211.
The tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. CT on both Friday and Saturday with Sunday’s round set for a 7 a.m. start. Follow live scoring for the event at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com.
