Beach Volleyball Signs Four to the 2016 Class
Communications Student Assistant
BATON ROUGE, LA-The LSU beach volleyball team announced four new commitments for the 2016 recruiting class as Claire Coppola, Taylor Bradley, Kristen Nuss and Olivia Powers all signed their letters of intent earlier this week. The four will be eligible to compete next season.
“We’re really excited about this class,” said coach Russell Brock. “I think we got a great blend of size and athleticism and a good balance of defenders and blockers. We feel like we have four players who can impact our program for four years. They’re all very different, but they all have unique abilities and great talent and huge upside. We’re excited to get them in and have them contribute to help make us a better program right away.”
Claire Coppola, a native of Scottsdale, Arizona, competed nationally at the AAU SOCAL Championships where she qualified for the PanAm Games. Coppola also took first in the AAU Arizona Regionals and the Las Vegas Pursuit.
“I always wanted to go to a big school with big sports, but when I met the coaches and saw the family atmosphere at LSU, I knew I wanted to be a Tiger,” said Coppola.
Taylor Bradley from Round Rock, Texas, made Second Team All-District and garnered two-time Academic All-District player honors.
“The thing that influenced me the most to come to LSU was the coaching staff,” explained Bradley. “Everyone is so positive and you know that they are going to push you to be your best every day.”
New Orleans native Kristen Nuss was the LHSAA Division I MVP as well as a state champion and Gatorade Player of the Year candidate in indoor volleyball.
“As long as I can remember, I always wanted to attend LSU," said Nuss. "Now, to be given the opportunity to play beach volleyball is an absolute dream.”
Olivia Powers from Merrit Island Christian School in Florida broke school records in blocks and kills, received 2014 First Team All-County honors and helped her team claim district four years in a row.
“The biggest influence for me was the players and the coaching staff,” said Powers. “I just loved the atmosphere of the whole school and the facilities they offered.”
