BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - LSU had 58 of its student-athletes named to the 2014 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll the league announced today, led by the men's and women's track and field team that combined to place 23 on the list.

Putting an end to another astonishing season, the Tigers and Lady Tigers track squads finished fourth and sixth overall in the nation at the NCAA Championships in June at the University of Oregon, as nine came from the men's side, with the other 14 coming from the women's group being led by Capital One Academic All-American Therese Jernbeck.

With nine total selections, the LSU softball team was also well represented as the group made it to the regional final of the NCAA Tucson Regional in Arizona, paced by second team NFCA All-South Region and first team All-Louisiana outfielder A.J. Andrews who led the team in hits with 68 and finished in the top 20 in the nation in stolen bases with 38 and triples with six which was in the top 10.

Seven student-athletes from the men's golf team are next on the honor roll, which include Ping and Golfweek All-American selections Stewart Jolly, Ben Taylor and Curtis Thompson. LSU put together one of its best seasons on record this past year, finishing second at the SEC Championships before powering all the way to the NCAA Semifinals.

The 2014 SEC Baseball Tournament Champion Tigers also had seven players named to the list, as the group brought home the programs 11th title. Big keys to that tourney run were Major League Baseball draftees Nate Fury and Sean McMullen, along with SEC All-Defensive team selection Andrew Stevenson.

Led by first team All-SEC pick Madelene Sagstrom, the LSU women's golf team had five honorees along with Elise Bradley, Nadine Dreher, Lindsay Gahm and Ali Lucas.

From the men's tennis team, John Michael Bush, Harrison Kennedy and Andrew Korinek were selected, while Mary Jeremiah and Ariel Morton.

The final two also come from LSU's newest sport, as Victoria Boraski and Meghan Mannari were each picked from the sand volleyball team who just completed its first season of intercollegiate competition.

Any student-athlete who participates in a Southeastern Conference championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution's NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll.

The following criteria should be followed: (1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution. (2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll. (3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons. (4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution.
