Boyle, Holman Fare Well in USA Volleyball Programs
BATON ROUGE, La. – It’s not often that LSU volleyball has two players competing over the summer with the season right around the corner, but the duo of Helen Boyle and Briana Holman each received opportunities they could not pass up in being a part of two of three USA Volleyball Collegiate National Teams that competed this summer in various events around the world.
Holman was a part of a CNT group that took a tour of China with some of the best collegiate players in the country over the end of the month of June, while Boyle traveled north to Minnesota to take part in in an event associated with the Girls Junior National Championships that were also going on at the same time.
For Holman, the returning LSWA Player of the Year and honorable mention All-American who trained at USC in California before heading to China for 10 days, her team came away with some hardware as the squad finished second overall after the tournament concluded. She finished with over 30 kills during competition, starting the bulk of the matches the CNT played.
Boyle was able to go one step further in her pursuits at the Minneapolis Convention Center, winning the team title with the USA Blue team with a perfect mark of 3-0. Her team dropped just four sets during the entire tournament, including battling back from a two-sets-to-one deficit to rally by taking the final two 20-15 and 18-16.
Later this month, both Boyle and Holman will recount their experiences with the two collegiate national teams in special blog posts here at LSUsports.net.
LSU has earned 190 victories sparked by five 20-win seasons to go along with seven SEC Western Division titles since 2005. The Tigers also are one of 29 programs to appear in at least seven NCAA Tournaments during the past nine seasons.
