Notes on the Tigers
LSU is ranked No. 8 in the USA Today poll released on Monday - LSU has now appeared in the Top 10 of a major college baseball poll for 49 consecutive weeks … the Tigers finished the regular-season as the No. 3 team in the Southeastern Conference and will meet either No. 11 Tennessee or No. 6 Vanderbilt at 9:30 a.m. CT in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala. … LSU has won a league-best 10 conference tournaments, including four titles in the past six seasons … With a three-game sweep at Auburn last weekend, LSU posted 40 wins in a season for the sixth time in coach Paul Mainieri’s eight-season tenure at LSU and for the 26th time in the past 31 seasons … LSU leads the nation this season in shutouts with 16, including two last week – 27-0 vs. Northwestern State on Tuesday and 10-0 at Auburn on Thursday … LSU’s 27-0 victory over Northwestern State on Tuesday represented the largest margin of victory in school history … the game, which was stopped after six innings due to lightning, was also a combined no-hitter and the first no-hitter in LSU history since 1979 … LSU scored its most runs in a game since March 22, 1998 when the Tigers scored 27 against Arkansas … shortstop Alex Bregman and catcher Tyler Moore each collected a career-high eight RBI and each player launched a grand slam … they were the first LSU players to produce eight RBI in a game since catcher Brad Cresse accomplished the feat against Tulane in 2000 … junior all-American pitcher Aaron Nola defeated Auburn on Friday night, limiting AU to one run on five hits in seven innings with one walk and nine strikeouts … Nola increased his career strikeouts total to 331 and moved into third place on the all-time LSU strikeouts list … Nola earned his 28th career LSU victory and is tied with Brett Laxton (1993-96) for 10th place on the all-time school pitching wins list .. junior catcher/first baseman Tyler Moore enjoyed a remarkable week in leading LSU to four straight victories … Moore batted .500 (8-for-16) with three doubles, one homer, 13 RBI and six runs scored … he also walked twice, posting a .556 on-base percentage in four games … in Tuesday’s win over Northwestern State, Moore produced a career-best eight RBI and launched the first grand slam of his career … in LSU’s three-game SEC sweep at Auburn, Moore batted .417 (5-for-12) with two doubles, five RBI, two runs scored and a .462 on-base percentage … while playing catcher, he also threw out an Auburn runner attempting to steal second base … Freshman outfielder Jake Fraley hit a blistering .667 (10-for-15) in LSU’s four wins last week with one double, one homer, three RBI, three runs and .688 on-base percentage … Fraley batted .636 (7-for-11) in the Tigers’ three-game SEC series sweep at Auburn with one RBI, two runs scored, one stolen base and a .667 on-base percentage … Fraley raised his cumulative average to a team-best .372 (35-for-94) with seven doubles, one triple, three homers and 27 RBI.
