BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s basketball program has received a National Letter of Intent from Alliyah Fareo to continue her career with the Lady Tigers as announced Monday by head coach Nikki Caldwell.

Fareo, a 6-3 center/power forward from Sydney, Australia, with extensive club and international experience, will join LSU as a freshman for the 2014-15 season. She posted 7.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, and Australia secured a gold medal at the 2013 FIBA U19 Pacific Championships in December. Recently, Fareo had an impressive 2014 Australian Junior Championships in March where she averaged 11.8 points per game as the NSW Under-20 team earned a silver medal.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Alliyah into our LSU family,” Caldwell said. “She is a great addition to our interior game while bringing size and skill. Alliyah has a thirst for being the best and through her competitive spirit she will make an instant impact. We are looking forward to her future as a Lady Tiger.”

LSU already signed Jenna Deemer, a guard who was a three-time Class 4A All-State pick from Ursuline Academy in New Orleans. The Lady Tigers also inked Stephanie Amichia, a four-star forward and top prep player in the Southeast from North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia during the early signing period in November.

LSU has secured three consecutive 20-plus win seasons and three NCAA Tournament appearances under Caldwell. The Lady Tigers were ranked No. 24 in the season-ending edition of the USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll. The last time LSU was ranked during back-to-back seasons was the program’s 2007 and 2008 NCAA Final Four campaigns.
