BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Mary Jeremiah of the LSU women’s tennis team was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced Monday.

The SEC Community Service Team highlights athletes from all 21 SEC sports who give back to their community in superior service efforts.

Jeremiah is currently the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President.  This is her second year as a representative for the women’s tennis team.

The junior has participated in several acts of community service.  During LSU’s Halloween BOOzar, Jeremiah and her team dressed in costumes and interacted with local youth.  The team played tennis and handed out candy, providing the children with a safe and fun Halloween experience

Jeremiah also volunteered during LSU’s annual Thanksgiving with the Tigers.  Jeremiah and her teammates adopted an underprivileged child for the holidays and welcomed her to campus for a Thanksgiving style meal.  The group played games and handed out presents for the holidays.

During the spring semester, Jeremiah led the team in a visit to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.  The group went room to room visiting with patients.  The team signed autographs and took pictures with the children and their families to cheer them up.

Other members of the SEC Community Service Team include Emily Zabor of Alabama, Shannon Hudson of Arkansas, Jen Pfeifler of Auburn, Brianna Morgan of Florida, Kate Fuller of Georgia, Grace Trimble of Kentucky, Caroline Rohde-Moe of Ole Miss, Rosie Dion of Mississippi State, Kelli Hine of Missouri, Joanna Henderson of Tennessee and Courtney Colton of Vanderbilt.

The Lady Tigers begin postseason play at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16 as they face Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Columbia, Mo.
