Notes on the Tigers
The Tigers posted a 2-1 series victory over No. 24 Arkansas last weekend, marking LSU's ninth SEC series win over the Razorbacks in the past 10 seasons … LSU is ranked No. 7 by USA Today and No. 8 by Perfect Game in polls released on Monday … LSU has appeared in the Top 10 of a major college baseball poll for 44 consecutive weeks, and the Tigers have won 19 of their 25 SEC series over the past three seasons … LSU is on the road for its four games this week – the Tigers play Southern Mississippi on Tuesday at Zephyr Field in Metairie, La. in the annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation Classic … LSU will depart right after Tuesday's game for Memphis, Tenn., where the Tigers will visit the St. Jude Children's Hospital on Wednesday, then travel to Oxford, Miss. for the series at Ole Miss that begins on Thursday … LSU's 5-0 win over Lamar last Wednesday was the Tigers' 11th shutout this season, establishing a school record for single-season shutouts … the previous mark of 10 shutouts was set by LSU's 1996 national championship team … junior right-hander Aaron Nola fired earned his seventh win of the season Friday, defeating No. 24 Arkansas with a career-high 13 strikeouts … Nola fired 115 pitches and limited the Razorbacks to two runs on four hits in seven innings with two walks and a career-best 13 Ks … Nola improved to 7-1 on the year and his ERA is 0.70 … in 64 innings, he's recorded 13 walks and an SEC-leading 84 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting just. 143 against him … junior right-hander Joe Broussard earned a win and a save in the last weekend's series versus Arkansas … Broussard picked up the save in Game 1, firing 1.2 scoreless innings and allowing no hits with one walk and two strikeouts to preserve a 5-3 win …Broussard was the winning pitcher in Game 2 as he recorded the final two outs of the top of the ninth inning with the scored tied 4-4 before LSU rightfielder Mark Laird delivered a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 victory … sophomore centerfielder Andrew Stevenson was the Tigers' leading hitter in the Arkansas series, batting .429 (3-for-7) with one RBI, three runs and a.500 on-base percentage … freshman second baseman Kramer Robertson enjoyed a productive series, as he was 2-for-5 in two starts with one double, three RBI and one run scored … sophomore catcher Chris Chinea started Saturday's Game 2 and was 2-for-3 with one double, one RBI and one run scored.
