MIAMI -- The LSU sand volleyball team (4-5) will travel to the Florida International Surf & Turf Tournament Friday to face four teams during the weekend at the FIU Sand Volleyball Courts.

The Tigers will take on North Florida (11-3) at 7:30 a.m. and No. 7 Florida International (9-2) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Florida Gulf Coast (1-12) at 7:30 a.m. and Florida Atlantic (2-8) at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday and will follow with a pairs tournament on Sunday.

“We want to go in and continue to win,” associate head coach Russell Brock said. “We have another opportunity to play another Top 10 team in FIU, and we know that’s going to be a big challenge. It’s going to be a different challenge than Florida State, and we’re going to be a better team. It will be a great opportunity to gauge just within a week if we can make progress and if we can make changes. We’re going to go in knowing that if we play to our full potential, we may be able to win all of (the matches this weekend).”

Sunday’s pairs tournament is divided into three brackets: Gold for the top-two seeded spots, Silver for the No. 3 and No. 4 pairs and Bronze for the remaining duos.

LSU competed in its first pairs tournament last weekend at Florida State, and the top-spot pair of Meghan Mannari and Katie Lindelow advanced to the semifinals of the Gold bracket. The Tigers also recorded two wins at the tournament, against Jacksonville and their second victory over South Carolina.

North Florida is in its third season and is undefeated in competition within the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Ospreys topped Mercer, 4-1, in a recent dual match, and LSU fell, 3-2, to Mercer earlier in the season at the Gamecock Invitational.

Florida International is currently ranked seventh nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and the Panthers are in their program’s second year.

Florida Gulf Coast is in its third program year. The Eagles recorded two losses this season against Jacksonville, and LSU notched a 3-2 win over the Dolphins at Florida State over the weekend.

Also is in its third program season, Florida Atlantic tallied a loss against Jacksonville this year, falling 4-1 during a tournament at North Florida.
