TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The LSU sand volleyball team (2-4) will travel to Florida State to take on Jacksonville (3-10) at 10 a.m., Florida State (7-1) at 11 a.m. and South Carolina (4-6) at 3 p.m. CT at the FSU Sand Volleyball Courts.
“We had a great day of practice Thursday, and we’re ready to get out and play again,” associate head coach Russell Brock said. “The weather has made our schedule a bit uncertain, so we just need to be as prepared as possible for any opponent we may face. We are definitely excited to compete again.”
Following Saturday’s competition, the Tigers will compete in a pairs tournament Sunday based off of their performances the day prior.
“Sunday’s pairs tournament will be a new format for us, and it is another chance to challenge our teams in a new way,” Brock said. “We welcome any experiences that can help us improve, and the opportunity to play multiple matches in a tournament format will be a great test.”
Jacksonville is in its program’s third season, and the Tigers took on South Carolina during the Gamecock Invitational and notched a 4-1 victory at the Gamecocks’ home site.
Florida State is currently ranked fourth nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and the Seminoles were the No. 3 seed in the 2013 AVCA National Championships.
LSU faced its last competition against Tulane and tallied a 3-2 loss. The court-three pair of Victoria Boraski and Cati Leak scored a third-set win 21-16, 18-21, 15-8 that awarded LSU its second and final point of the day against the Green Wave. The duo is now on a five-match winning streak with only one loss, against UL-Monroe in the inaugural opener.
